Our recent trip to Alaska continues.
We proceeded to the north end of Peger Road, where we can see the west side of the yard. Here, we caught this long string of tank cars.

According to the Trains article I mentioned before, these tank cars are used for moving jet fuel and refined petroleum products from Flint Hills Resources refinery at the North Pole to Anchorage. This has been earning more than 40 percent of the railroad’s freight revenue.

I have little information about these tank cars. But the close-up photo of one of the car, GATX 36910, shows these cars may just finished maintaining: blue paint on the end of axe is seen clearly. As you can see, all the equipment are escaped from graffiti and kept in fine condition. Snow would be the most important item for the "weather"ing work.

According to the 2008 ARR Equipment Circular, GATX 36910 is one of the 60 cars fleet here in ARR, 36891 – 36950 series 24000-gallon capacity tank car, leased by Flint Hills Resources.

冬のアラスカ行を記している。
車庫の周りには、他にも様々な車両が留置されていた。それらをスナップしてから、駅の西を南北に走るPeger Roadという道が線路に突き当たる地点に行ってもらう。先のPhilips Field Roadもそうだが、これらの撮影ポイントはJohn Combsというひとの 「John’s ALASKA RAILROAD WEB PAGE」におけるサジェスチョンである。ここでは、ヤードの出発番線（恐らく）が見渡せる。

先に紹介したTrains誌の記事によれば、ARRの貨物輸送売り上げのおよそ40％は、フェアバンクスの少し南東に位置する North Poleという駅に隣接する精製所で生産される石油製品の輸送による。それを担うのが、これらのタンク車である。

筆者はGATXの車両についてはあまり詳しくないが、車軸尖端がまだ青く見えるので、新しい車両であるか整備仕立ての車両なのだろう。ご覧のように、当地で見る車両にはほとんどグラフィティがない。理由は分からないが、やはり見ていて気持ちがいい。
