BN GP9 #1720, ex-NP #272 and #1726, ex-NP #288

: Clinton, MT, Summer, 1971

On route 10 between Missoula and Anaconda MT, met this westbound BN train. In the photo are BN GP9 #1720, ex-NP #272 and #1726, ex-NP #288. NP owned 61 GP9s with dynamic brakes.
NP #272 was built in 1956 and retired in 1985. #288 was built in 1957 and retired from BN in 1991, and became Tennessee Southern RR #1726. Noteworthy is that the NP "Canoe" schemes are a little different between the two.

EMD GP9 was built between 1954 and 1959 with 1750hp prime mover. 3436 units were sold in United States.
