Surfaces - Everyday Life in the Early 70’s

Here, I introduce scanned images from my dad’s slides mostly taken in the early 70’s. 1964 Oldsmobile was our only choice for means of family trip to as north as Fairbanks, AK or to as south as Oaxaca, Mexico: we never used airlines. Accordingly, I decided to call this series of posts as “Surfaces”.

Sometimes, cheap gas we filled up at rundown stations made our Oldsmobile sick.

筆者の父が生前撮り貯めていたスライドをスキャンしている。その中から、このブログのテーマ「1970年代初めの北米における鉄道」と時空を同じくする風景を紹介する。１ドル360円の時代、わたしたち家族には北米域内に限っても飛行機など高嶺の花で、どこに行くのも中古で買った自家用車だった。記事のタイトル「Surfaces (地表)」は、そこに由来する。


片田舎にあるノー・ブランドのガソリンスタンドで安いのを入れると、たまに車の具合が悪くなった。
