L&N MW #41064 [LN Photo Archives]
: New Haven, KY. Sep. 10, 2019
This boxcar is preserved at the Kentucky Railway Museum in New Haven, Kentucky.
Barely read markings indicate this car as Louisville & Nashville Railroad (reporting mark L&N) #41064 with the capacity of 100,000 pounds.
The Official Railway Equipment Register (ORER) for July 1974 shows the group #40000 to 45999 with 1489 cars in place, only described as follows:
“L&N” Miscellaneous Work Equipment
The 40’ boxcar from the series #93000 to 97099 rebuilt between 1939 and 1941 shown in L&N Color Guide to Freight and Passenger Equipment has a similar appearance: 3/7/8 Murphy corrugated ends, Murphy steel roofs, and 6’ Youngstown doors. However, unfortunately, I couldn't find the reassignment/renumbering document telling the original number of the particular car.
L&N 93000 – 97099 series boxcars
The ORER for July 1974 shows the group with only 4 cars in place, 94855, 95006, 96332, and 96704, described as follows:
AAR Designation XM and description “Box, Stl.” only.
The inside length of these cars is 40 feet 6 inches, inside width 9 feet 2 inches, inside height 10 feet, outside length 44 feet 9 inches, extreme height 14 feet 7 inches and capacity 3713 cubic feet or 100,000 pounds.
