CP FP7A #1417 and F9B #1905

At CP's Calgary Station, met this CP passenger train, the "Canadian".

Here the east bound "The Canadian" led by CP FP7A #1417 and F9B #1905 makes a brief stop at the station. You can see the winterization hatch, searchlight and icicle-breaker on the roof.

CP #1417 was built in 1952 as CP #4059. She was renumbered to #1417 in 1955. She was destroyed by fire in 1971.
CP #1905 was built in 1954. She was renumbered to #4477 in 1971. She was sold to VIA and became #1964 in 1979, later became #6653 in 1981. She was retired between 1989 and 1990.

CP's station in Calgary was much more modern. It was occupying the ground floor of a boxy, office-like building in the downtown.


これはカナダ・アルバータ州第二の都市カルガリーのCP RAILの駅である。シカゴの駅とは異なり、えらく近代的な雰囲気の中、多分建て替えられたのだろうオフィスビルの地階のようなところにあった。ちょうどCPの看板列車"The Canadian"が停車していた。コンクリートこて押さえのプラットホームもまだ新しそうである。

写っているのは、CP RailのGMD製FP7Aの1414号機およびF9B1905号機。
FP7Aは、F7の車体を４フィート延ばしてSGと水タンクを搭載した、旅客列車用の機種である。屋根に見える四角い箱は"Winterization Hatch"と呼ばれる耐寒装備である。寒冷期にラジエーターファン排気口の一部を遮蔽して過冷却を防ぐシャッターが格納されている。つらら切りが沿線の風土を物語る。
