From E11th St. viaduct, could get a full view of CENTRAL STATION at the E12th Street.
The big billboard indicates its proprietor. Unfortunately, it was demolished in 1974.

IC XM #x35827

: Encino, NM. Sep. 13, 2015

This ex-IC Dharuma-san is found next to the BNSF mainline at Encino, NM. It seems used as a barn. As you see, it still keeps its original scheme including “Main Line of MID AMERICA” slogan.

According to the Oct. 1968 ORER, IC 35500–35999, 36000–36299, 37000–37499, 135500–135999, 136000–136299, 137000–137499, 210500–210599 and 212000–212099 series 40 feet boxcars have 14 feet wide staggered double doors. According to the final numbers 827 barely read on the body, 35500–35999 and 135500–135999 series are the only candidates for this particular car. The only difference between the both series cars is the truck. Accordingly, I decided to represent this car as IC #x35827.
Mentioning the lost feet, #135826 from the same series appears at Boxcars & Freight Cars of North America site seems riding on Barber S-2 trucks.

IC 35500–35999 and 135500–135999 series steel boxcars:
The ORER for July 1974 shows the car under group 35500–35999 with 11 cars in place, described as follows:
AAR Designation XM, Box, Stugg. Doors.
The inside length of these cars is 40 feet 6 inches, inside width 9 feet 2 inches, inside height 10 feet 8 inches, outside length 44 feet 4 inches, extreme height 15 feet 1 inch and capacity 3928 cubic feet or 80,000 pounds.

The ORER for July 1974 shows the car under group 135500–135999 with 54 cars in place. Other data is the same to the group 35500–35999.

IC Trailer #unknown

This 40’ Dry van trailer built by Theurer is found at Glendale, UT. “Split Rail” logo mark suggests the era of this trailer as between 1967 and 1972. Pig on wheels logos and letterings on sides seem disappeared.

IC XM #400186

: IC 400186

This IC boxcar is found 2 miles west from Del Norte on the north side of US Hwy 160. Unfortunately, however, tank cars stored on the San Luis and Rio Grande (SLRG) track along the Highway get in the way of us taking photos as of September 2017. More reliable photo of this particular car can be found at Fallenflags site[1].

According to the IC/GM&O Color Guide to Freight and Passenger Equipment, this car was built as one of 22000-23534 series XM at the railroad’s Centralia shop in 1954/55. These cars were renumbered and repainted in 1972 due to the IC-GM&O merger.


IC 400000 – 401534 series Boxcars
The Official Railway Equipment Register for July 1974 shows the group with 591 cars in place, described as follows:

The IC series 400000 to 401534 is shown with AAR Designation XM and description “Box” only.

The inside length of these cars is 40 feet 6 inches, inside width 9 feet 2 inches, inside height 10 feet 6 inches, outside length 44 feet 4 inches, extreme height 15 feet and capacity 3898 cubic feet or 110,000 pounds.

IC XM #41390

: Monticello, IL. Sep. 11, 2019

This boxcar is preserved at the Monticello Railroad Museum in Illinois.

According to the equipment roster of the Museum, this car was built in 1937 by GATC[1]. Trucks may have been replaced in the late ’60s according to the markings on the truck. The restoration at the Museum was finally completed in 2011[2].

IC 41000 – 41599 series Boxcars
The Official Railway Equipment Register (ORER) for January 1972 shows the group #41000 to 41599 with only a single car in place, maybe #41446 equipped with DF-1 belt loading devices according to Note 4-14, listed as follows:

AAR Designation XL and description “Box. Stag. Doors” only.

The inside length of these cars is 50 feet 6 inches, inside width 9 feet, inside height 10 feet 7 inches, outside length 54 feet 4 inches, extreme height 14 feet 11 inches and capacity 4690 cubic feet or 100,000 pounds.

None of this series of boxcar is listed in 1974 ORER.
