Flying, 06 - The 1966 "Stacked" Logo

Rio Grande also had the hemmed version. The stacked logo and the "ACTION road" slogan is hemmed in a parallelogram here on this caboose. The flying logo was treated alike in the herald. But never as a logo. I think it's because of the origin.

The original flying logo was designed by Miss M. Laura Branmkamp, an employee in the Purchasing Department. I think that the amateur designed logo without the supposition of bi-directional use nor deployment made difficulties in deploying the design. Thus the original flying logo lived (and also loved) long.

Rio Grandeにも四角く囲んだヘラルドがある。写真のcabooseのそれが該当する。しかし囲われているのは"flying logo"ではない。なぜ"flying logo"は展開されなかったのか。筆者は、"flying logo"がいわば素人の手によるからだと考えている。

このロゴをデザインしたのはMiss M. Laura Branmkampという事務員である。素人による、デザイン展開を想定していない・展開の困難なデザインのおかげで、このロゴは永くオリジナルのまま使われる（そして愛される）ことになったのではないだろうか。
